Scholarship Program

The ATHENA Foundation is an international organization that honours individuals and companies who assist women in achieving their full leadership potential. Its philosophy is based on core concepts, constructs, factors and elements of leadership that have emphasized empowering or enabling others to achieve goals in pervasive and powerful ways.

The objective of the ATHENA Oakville Scholarship is to honour worthy individuals who have exhibited the values and tenets as set out by the ATHENA Foundation and to assist them in achieving their full leadership potential.

The ATHENA principles are a unique blend of authenticity, creativity, relationship, intellect and spirit.

Award Eligibility - 2009
This scholarship is available to a student, 30 years and older, who has:

  • - Shown academic achievement
  • - Participated in socially responsible activities in the community
  • - Exhibited leadership qualities and
  • - Demonstrated a financial need
  • - Attending or planning to attend a fulltime program at Sheridan College

Priority will be given to students who have not received other scholarships and who are attending or planning to attend a fulltime program at Sheridan College. Each year, ATHENA Oakville will award $1000.00 to a qualified applicant, and previous recipients will have the opportunity to reapply.

Application Requirements / Check List

  • - A completed application form (See the side Section Links)
  • - A letter describing why you would be worthy recipient of the ATHENA Oakville Scholarship
  • - A brief outline of your budget for the coming year including information:

    • - Anticipated expenses, such as tuition, books, housing, transportation and childcare
    • - Expected source(s) of funding, for example student loan, grants, family (include all the financial aid program in which you will be participating or have applied for scholarships provided by the school, alumni association, government or other groups.)

  • - Two confidential letters of reference. (These should be from an individual who is familiar with your schoolwork and one who is familiar with your activities outside of school.)
  • - An official transcript detailing your education to date.
