ATHENA® Award Program
The ATHENA Award is presented to an individual (man or woman) who is recognized for professional excellence, for providing valuable service to their community and for actively assisting women in the attainment of their professional goals and leadership skills.By honoring exceptional leaders, the ATHENA Award® Program seeks to inspire others to achieve excellence. ATHENA Oakville is proud to announce the 12th ATHENA award in Oakville.
Do you know someone worthy of the ATHENA Award?
Think about the people in your life that may have mentored and helped you along the way. It could be a teacher, employer, colleague or someone from your faith community. They may fit the criteria and what better way to acknowledge their contribution than to nominate them for the Oakville ATHENA Award.
Criteria for Oakville ATHENA Award
Nominees must fit ALL four criteria:
- - The individual demonstrates excellence, creativity and initiative in their business or profession.
- - The individual provides valuable service by contributing time and energy to improve the quality of life of others in the community.
- - The individual actively assists women in realizing their full leadership potential.
- - The individual either lives or working in Oakville - work can be paid or unpaid (working more than 20 hours/week in Oakville).
Nominees cannot be a member of ATHENA Oakville, past recipient or be a sponsor of ATHENA Oakville

Five steps to submitting a nomination
There are five steps to submitting a nomination.
- First you need to check and confirm that your nominee is in agreement with the nomination.
- Next talk to people who know your nominee. Find out if they would be prepared to write a letter of reference. Note, only three letters of reference can be submitted. Their relationship to the nominee should be defined in the letter, as well as how long they have known the individual. You may want to select people who know your nominee in different capacities.
- Ask your nominee to prepare a two-page resume summarizing his or her career, highlighting any awards received and community involvement.
- Describe how your nominee fits the criteria for the ATHENA Award by answering the questions provided. Please confine your answers to two pages, size 12 font.
- Complete the Nomination Form, which has to be signed by both the Nominator and Nominee and attach to the material collected above.
The deadline for nominations is July 15, 2009.
